Application example 2

Utilisation of exhaust heat from a power plant.

A mining company operates an own power centre with two 4 MWel gas engines. The company satisfies the relatively high steam requirement to extract the salt with the waste heat from the combustion engines and by firing the boiler with an additional gas burner. Here Spilling technology comes in to improve the total efficiency of the plant:

As of now, a 6-cylinder Spilling steam motor expands the generated high pressure saturated steam to process steam level. The fact that the steam engine was favoured over the steam turbine despite the large steam mass flow, has two clear reasons: The engine's requirements on the steam quality are low and the engine has a comparably good electric efficiency at partial load and also at the low pressure ratio of high to low pressure.
